Morant returns, scores 22 points in win over Blazers
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant recorded 22 points and 11 assists in his team's 123-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Morant returned after missing eight games with a hip and pelvis injury. The Grizzlies went 5-3 in his absence.
Jaren Jackson Jr. added 21 points, while three Memphis players scored in double figures off the bench.
Memphis improved to 11-7 after Monday's victory.
Scotty Pippen Jr. did an admirable job filling in for Morant at the point, averaging 13.8 points, 5.4 assists, 4.3 boards, and 1.1 steals across eight starts.
Morant was averaging 20.6 points, 9.1 assists, and five boards prior to being sidelined. However, the two-time All-Star was shooting a career-worst 25.8% from deep and 44.8% overall.
The Grizzlies remain in the NBA's top 10 for both offensive and defensive efficiency despite the absence of Morant and other key pieces.
